Accident Tips
A few accident tips you should know. When you are involved in an accident, do not admit fault. Always contact the police. Note: You are not required give out your proof of insurance, unless the other party has their proof. If you are at fault, contact your agent so that we can release information to the other party about your insurance when we are contacted. If you are not at fault, Do Not Call Your Insurance Company First, To File A Claim Or Report A Claim, otherwise, it may go on your record. Contact the other party’s insurance company and file a claim. However, if they have no insurance or deny coverage, you may not have a choice.
How To Report A Claim
Most of the companies we represent offer 24-hour claims assistance centers that allow you to report your claim at any time. For the most prompt service, contact your company directly and as soon as possible. Your quickest response will likely be received from their own assistance centers.
You will be asked some initial questions, and then a claims representative will contact you — generally by the end of the business day, and/or most likely within 24 hours, depending on your company. They will ask additional questions and schedule an inspection of your vehicle. At this time, be sure to discuss any questions you have about deductibles, what’s covered or the repairs, with your claims rep. They’ll inspect your vehicle’s damage and provide an estimate for repairs. They can also help you arrange vehicle repair service and towing if you need it.
Your insurance company will work with you throughout the entire claims process — from initial response through final resolution — to provide fast, caring service and to settle your claim.
Your insurance company many suggest a repair shop, or if you prefer to use your own repair shop, you can do that, too. If you need a rental car, your claims representative can make arrangements for one. Your rental may be covered depending on your policy coverages and the circumstances of your claim. They’ll periodically check the status of the repair and address any further issues, such as additional damage, payments for additional damage, or changes to the expected completion date, while your vehicle is in the shop. You claim will be settled quickly, fairly and accurately so you can move on with your life.
Windshield and Glass Claims
Step 1: Report the Claim
Report your glass claim.
Step 2: Assess the Damage
Comprehensive coverage is generally required for a windshield or glass claim. A claims representative will work with you to review your policy and to determine if you are covered for any repairs. Once coverage is confirmed, they will help you determine if the damage can be repaired or if your windshield needs to be replaced.
Step 3: Choose a Shop
Once you know you’re covered, your claims representative will arrange the repair or replacement of your glass at the location of your choice. If you don’t have a preference, they can help you locate a shop. No matter where you choose, the insurance company will work with the repair shop to complete your glass repair or replacement.
Step 4: Schedule an Appointment
Most repair shops offer in-shop and mobile glass repairs. Make the repair appointment that’s best for you.
Repair Estimates
You should get an estimate for your damage so that you know what the damage is. Ask what happens when any additional damage is found that was not on their original estimate. If you receive an insurance check make sure you do not cash it until the repairs are complete. If you cash it they could refuse to pay for additional damage.
Please Note: Some services described above are only available to customers who purchased coverages such as Comprehensive, Collision, Rental Reimbursement, Medical Payments, etc., before their loss. Coverage is subject to the terms of your policy. Please refer to your policy or contact your claims representative to verify which coverages you have.
